    Webinar Summary: 

    This webinar will give an overview of the Department of Energy with focus on the offices that fund research.  Specific attention will be given to those DOE offices that could fund research at Notre Dame.  Brief introductions of these offices will be given including general research interests and typical areas of funding.  This is meant to be a general, broad overview of the Department of Energy, giving a brief introduction to offices that could lead to future funding opportunities. 

     

    Duration: 30 minutes with Q&A opportunity at the end.

    Target Audience: Those interested in a general overview of the Department of Energy and its offices that could fund Notre Dame research would benefit the most from this presentation.
    Future presentations will provide more detailed information on different offices, as well as specific information on how to apply for funding to each of these offices.

    Webinar Summary: The Webinar will provide a brief overview of NIH including advice on research funding opportunities for individuals (RO1, R03, R21), Multi-projects (P01, P30, P50 and U), Scientific Conferences and Meetings (R13, U13 ), Career Development Programs  (T, F, K) and targeted funding opportunities (RFA, PAS). The merit review process, review criteria and rating system will be highlighted with respect to the important distinct roles of the Scientific Review Officers and Program Directors and understanding pay lines and percentiles.  Knowing who, when, and how to contact NIH will be addressed prior to grant submission, after the decision, and awardee’s exploration for potential supplements.  Becoming a panelist, a council member or invited to workshops can be beneficial for you and NIH.  Special research opportunities now available for COVID-19 funding will be discussed. NIH recently received emergency funding for COVID-19 related activities that provide over $1.7 billion new dollars across 6 institutes and the Office of the Director.  NIH wants to get “additional funding quickly to those researchers who are already working with other organisms, models, or tools so that they can quickly shift focus to the novel coronavirus.”

    Target Audience:  Both NIH awardees and faculty with minimal experience should benefit from learning about the breadth of research opportunities, success strategies  and best practices to getting more involved at NIH, including potential opportunities to contributing to COVID-19 research.

    Webinar Summary: Provides an overview of the DoD’s Science and Technology research organizations, research area priorities, budgeting process and top-level annual summary of Funding Opportunity Announcements. We will discuss best practices on how to engage with the DoD, appropriate entry points, relationship building and how to cut through the bureaucracy to better understand the DoD’s requirements and funding priorities. Finally, recommendations on white paper and proposal writing will be offered to increase the likelihood of a successful FOA award.

    Target Audience: Those interested in pursuing DoD research opportunities with a focus on those with minimal experience dealing with the DoD. However, even those with solid DoD research experience should find the discussion a good refresher as well as benefiting from the best practices and updated entry points of contacts information.

  4. Funding Opportunities from the Institute of Education Sciences

    In this webinar, Dr. Jill Pentimonti overviews funding opportunities from the Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES). IES funds research that contributes to improved education outcomes for all learners, and particularly for those whose education prospects are hindered by inadequate education services and conditions associated with poverty, race/ethnicity, limited English proficiency, disability, and family circumstance. This webinar provides general information on the following: IES funding opportunities, research project types, steps to applying for and preparing an IES grant, the review process, and tips for first-time applicants. If you have not applied to IES before, or you are considering applying to IES, this webinar will provide a broad overview of the grant funding and some considerations to help you decide whether to submit an application.
